1. Lesson Description:
In this lesson, students will receive both classroom instruction and online instruction to learn how to play the fifth song in the Recorder Karate book, "Old MacDonald Had A Farm". By the end of this lesson, students will be able to recognize rhythms within the piece of music, identify note names, demonstrate fingerings for the notes D, E, G, A and B, sing the pitches and perform the song on the recorder. Each student will be expected to demonstrate at least an 80% proficiency of the overall material by performing individually on video (which will be posted to their portfolio) and participating in an overall competent AudioBoo recording.
a. The National Standards for Music Education that will be met through this lesson include:
i.1) Singing alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music
ii.2) Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music

iii. ART.M.I.3.9 Use a system to read quarter notes and rests, eighth notes, half notes, and whole notes.
2. Instructions For Students:
1. Students will examine the fifth song in the Recorder Karate book, "Old MacDonald Had A Farm". They will
then work in groups to figure out the rhythms within the piece of music (discussing the quarter rests and dotted half notes). The class will say the rhythms together afterwards.
2. Students will identify the pitches within the piece of music next. The students will then fill in the note names as an assessment using ProProfs.
3. Students will demonstrate correct fingerings for the notes within the piece of music. They
will work in pairs to challenge and help each other to figure out the fingerings quickly. The class will say the names of the notes as they finger them on the recorder together as a class.
4. Students will be asked to sing the song "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" on Do, Sol, La, Mi, Re and La. A review about placement of solfege syllables must take place for understanding. Then, they will finally get the chance to play the music on their recorders. After the class is able to play the music, students will be recorded through AudioBoo for assessment as well as video recorded for their portfolios. Those students who can perform 80% of the notes and rhythms accurately will recieve a prurple belt for their recorder.

Students will work in pairs to figure out the fingerings as they fill out a recorder fingering chart Brace Map. The class will then say the names of the notes aloud as they finger the piece of music on the recorder (beginning
with a very slow tempo and increasing it each time the class practices it together).
Students will sing the notes using Do, Sol, La, Mi and Re in pairs and then as a whole group with piano accompaniment. Students will then play their recorders while being audio recorded into Audioboo (LINKhttp://audioboo.fm/ElementaryMusic) and then individuals will be recorded via Flipcam and posted into their Vimeo account portfolio (www.Vimeo.com). Those students who receive an 80% proficiency grade or higher will receive a green belt for their recorder.
Students will create a Gliffy fingering chart representing all of the notes they
