1. Lesson Description:
In this lesson, students will receive both classroom instruction and online instruction to learn how to play the sixth song in the Recorder Karate book, "When The Saints Go Marching In". By the end of this lesson, students will be able to recognize rhythms within the piece of music, identify note names, demonstrate fingerings for the notes G, A, B, C' and D', sing the pitches and perform the song on the recorder. Each student will be expected to demonstrate at least an 80% proficiency of the overall material by performing individually on video (which will be posted to their portfolio) and participating in an overall competent AudioBoo recording.
a. The National Standards for Music Education that will be met through this lesson include:

2. Students will identify the pitches within the piece of music next. The students will then fill in the note names as an assessment using ProProfs.
3. Students will demonstrate correct fingerings for the notes within the piece of music. Instructor explanation of the fingerings for C' and D' are critical prior to collaborative work. They will work in pairs to challenge and help each other to figure out the fingerings quickly. The class will say the names of the notes as they finger them on the recorder together as a class.
4. Students will watch the YouTube video of Louis Armstrong singing and playing the blue belt song.
5. Students will be asked to sing the song "When The Saints Go Marching In" on Do, Mi, Fa, Sol and Re. A review about placement of solfege syllables must take place for understanding. Then, they will finally get the chance to play the music on their recorders. After the class is able to play the music, students will be recorded through AudioBoo for assessment as well as video recorded for their portfolios. Those students who can perform 80% of the notes and rhythms accurately will recieve a blue belt for their recorder.
